The Self Portrait

Nothing is better than a Self-Portrait to sum-up the different areas of the 2nd semester DISA program: drawing, painting and digital imaging. In this final project, students integrated their studio expertise with a realistic or a fictional Self-Portrait inspired from an artist.

Tattoos and Camouflage

These drawings were done as a final project in the 2nd semester DISA drawing course. The notions of Tattoos and Camouflage were used to give these self-portraits other possible levels of interpretation. This work is now up in the Wayne Remington Gallery (2nd floor of G-block).

DRAWING FROM MUSIC

The inspiration for this project was a piece of music chosen by the student. Sound inspired lines, shapes and colors. Students worked with linear paths and bitmap elements in order to interpret rhythm. From our second semester DISA students, created using Photoshop.

exquisite corpse

The following images are from an assignment given in the Drawing Option class. Loosely based on the format of an exquisite corpse, students were asked to do a self-portrait in three segments. The top segment consisted of a direct form observation portrait of themselves. In the middle segment, they were to consider themselves as something else – either as an animate or inanimate object. And finally they were asked to place themselves in a specific location, environment, or situation.
